Walk into Rae’s and you can almost hear the record scratch as the regulars look up thinking you must be lost, but once you settle in at the bar it’s business as usual. Drinks are stiff, the room is dark and the mirrored back wall is great for drunken hallucinations. Two pool tables in the back provide an entertaining distraction from the sparse bar, the jukebox is nicely filled and there’s even a stage in the corner for karaoke.

crowd: mostly barflies
bartenders: wary
on tap: full liquor, and nuthin’ but bottles & cans for beer
