If you are looking to get away from the high priced gaslamp district or the crowdedness of Pacific Beach nightlife, then the Beachcomber is the spot to go. Depending on the night you go, the crowd can range from the local wild-child older residents of Mission Beach, to the drunken USD sorority girls looking to spend daddy's trust fund. Whether you are a regular or a first timer, the bartending staff will treat you like you have known them since childhood. Unless its Thursday night, where you have to get there early because it is dollar bottles of beer. Usually this beer is Rolling Rock, but better get there early while it lasts. The bar is also fully stocked with any liqour you can desire, along with several domestic beers on tap. In case you were worried about this place being cultured, there is constant international sports games being broadcast on mulitple televisions around the bar. Rugby is the mainstay, because who can resist watching grown men pummel each other while drinking a cold one. Their is a live dj in a booth spinning everything from current hip-hop hits to 80's arena rock. You will feel extremely out of place if you fail to be able to sing every word to either "Don't Stop Believing" or "Living on a Prayer". And to top it all off, there is a constant flow of free popcorn, a device used solely to slow the affects of the massive quantaties of alcohol you are consuming. Most people will agree that you either go there and stay sober, or are told what you did that night by your sober friends the next morning. Either way, the Beachcomber will not dissapoint.

The 'Comber! I lived in this place every weekend in 91-92, happy to hear it's still around. Bartender (maybe owner?) was a big bushy-bearded dude who wore Hawaiian shirts & drank on the job. They used to have a window into the taco joint next door- nothing better to go with shots of Jager than 3 fish tacos.
